“We have heard about these reports, we are studying the source of this information and its reliability,” the foreign minister said, as quoted by RIA Novosti.

Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov warned the United States “against this destabilizing step.” He emphasized that the security of neither Great Britain nor the United States will be strengthened by this and there is no intimidation effect on Russia.

On January 26, the British newspaper The Telegraph, citing the Pentagon Papers, reported that the United States was planning to deploy nuclear weapons in Great Britain for the first time in 15 years. According to the publication, the warheads are planned to be placed at the Royal Air Force Lakenheath air base.

The Pentagon subsequently refused to confirm or deny such plans.

As Moscow recalled, the United States has been deploying its nuclear weapons on the territory of five NATO member countries for many years.
