The head of the political bureau of the Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh, said that the movement had received a proposal from Paris for a ceasefire, and would study it to respond to it.

Haniyeh added in a statement today: “The movement’s priority is to end the Israeli military attack and the complete withdrawal of the occupation forces from Gaza,” adding that Hamas is “open to all ideas that would lead to ending the aggression against Gaza and providing shelter for the displaced.”

He also clarified that the movement is open to discussing any initiative requiring reconstruction and implementing a serious prisoner exchange process that guarantees the freedom of Palestinian prisoners. He reported that he received an invitation to visit Cairo to discuss the framework agreement issued by the Paris meeting and the requirements for its implementation in a way that achieves the interests of the Palestinian people.

Haniyeh appreciated the role of Qatar and Egypt in reaching a sustainable ceasefire agreement in Gaza on the path to ending the aggression, and appreciated South Africa’s position in filing the lawsuit against Israel in the International Court of Justice.

He also said that the Hamas movement appreciates Egypt's role that matches the position of the Palestinian people and their resistance by rejecting the presence of the occupation on the border with Egypt and thwarting the displacement plans, denouncing the attacks on Lebanon, Yemen, Syria and Iraq and the continuing threats from Iran.

He added that the movement is proud of the qualitative developments taking place on the resistance fronts supporting Gaza aimed at stopping the aggression and lifting the siege.

He stressed that the world must put pressure on the occupation to stop the massacres and war crimes, including the policy of abuse against the Palestinian people in the West Bank.

He expressed his condemnation of the position of the United States and some Western countries towards the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) and their suspension of their contribution instead of increasing it.
