“FPC has changed the procedure for detecting animals without owners on the territory of its divisions and on long-distance trains,” the company reported.

Now, if a stray animal is found on a train, train crew members will “take all necessary measures to find the owners.”

“If the owner cannot be found, the animal will be moved to a specialized luggage compartment or to service seats in the staff car, taken to the station, where it will be handed over to the station staff on duty,” the company told TASS.

Earlier it became known that Russian Railways suspended a conductor from working with passenger trains for taking a cat named Twix out of the carriage.

The incident occurred on January 11 and received wide publicity. The required ticket was issued for the animal, but the cat ran out of the compartment. The conductor did not find the owner and, deciding that the cat accidentally got into the carriage, threw him out during the stop.

On January 20, it became known that the cat had died.
