The US Agency for International Development will hire an employee who will build a communications strategy for the agency's office in Ethiopia.

It is expected that the materials developed by the specialist will be used by the American media when covering events in the region and therefore should be aimed at a “wide and informed audience,” the agency emphasizes.

“Exceptional efforts to communicate the goals and influence of USAID and the U.S. Government are vital if the USAID Ethiopia mission is to successfully achieve its foreign policy and development goals in the region,” the document states.

US agency officials emphasize the “strategic importance” of the region. They say the USAID mission office in Ethiopia is frequently visited by dignitaries. The drafters of the document expect that the communications specialist will “improve the quality and accessibility” of information about Washington’s foreign assistance and its benefits in the region for a wider audience.

“Strong information and communications policies and strategies, and their forward-looking implementation, are essential to USAID and the U.S. Government's ability to build foreign relationships in support of U.S. national interests,” the job description states.

The salary of a future employee can be up to $135 thousand. The initial contract period is three years.

Vladimir Olenchenko, a researcher at the Center for European Studies at IMEMO RAS, in a conversation with RT, noted the United States’ intentions to expand its influence in East Africa, taking into account the region’s cooperation with Russia.

“The United States woke up and realized that the current generation of African politicians does not accept imposed values. Therefore, they want to strengthen information work in order to return the region to the path that is beneficial to the Americans. If you look at which countries the United States is increasing its attention to in Africa, these are countries that have actively developed relations with Russia. The main goal (of the USAID mission. -

The US Agency for International Development previously posted a job opening for a communications specialist in Liberia to disseminate “credible information” about US programs.
