In order to get the positive effects of alcohol, the 18th-century Swede was recommended to stick to seven drinks a day.

- People drank in a different way. They drank brandy for breakfast, because they didn't have any morning coffee, for example, says Carina Burman, docent in literary studies, in Historien om Sverige.

Today's recommendations are completely different

Alcohol was then a natural part of the diet. But in relation to today's alcohol recommendations, it was not a health cure.

According to the guidelines that the health and medical care received from the National Board of Health and Welfare last fall, the health and medical care should offer support to those who drink ten standard glasses or more per week, or four standard glasses or more per occasion once a month or more often.
