According to the EU Council, the Safe Internet League "assists the Russian government in enforcing censorship practices." Mizulina, according to European officials, is allegedly responsible for “violations of freedom of opinion and expression.”

At the beginning of March 2022, the European Union banned the broadcast of the RT television channel and the work of the Sputnik agency in the community. Subsequently, it was reported that the European Union was turning off the broadcasting of the TV channels Rossiya 24, RTR-Planeta and TV Center on its territory as part of the sixth package of sanctions. In winter, as part of the ninth package of restrictions, the EU imposed sanctions against the TV-Novosti ANO.

In Russia, such a policy is associated with the extreme intolerance of the West towards pluralism of opinions. The head of the European Federation of Journalists, Ricardo Gutierrez, said the ban on RT and Sputnik “set a dangerous precedent” and called it ineffective.
