Russia: internet cuts to protect against air attacks

Internet connection outages are happening more and more often in Moscow, but also in certain regions, sometimes without explanation. But this time, the authorized Russian press has elements of an explanation. Russia does not quite fully assume this, but it seeks to protect itself from air attacks.

From our correspondent in Moscow,

We will still have to wait a few more hours for residents of the Leningrad, Novgorod and Pskov regions: the 4G internet will still be disconnected from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. and too bad for those who use their phone to pay or book taxis via a application.

A source from the RBK

newspaper

explains this type of cuts by the probable visit of senior officials. The

Kommersant

newspaper mentions “

technical work at the request of the security services

 ”.

Clearly, in both cases, it involves deploying new jamming systems to avoid drone attacks. Electronic jamming systems have already been installed in recent months in Russia, particularly in the center of the Russian capital.

Other measures are in preparation: a bill from the Ministry of Energy aims to completely ban all types of flights over fuel and energy installations. This implicitly underlines the concern of those in power after the fires of fuel depots or gunpowder factories, sometimes, but not always claimed by Ukraine, but always deeper on Russian territory.
