In order to prevent cyber-attacks, the government will newly add the industry of ``port transportation'' to the system in which the government conducts preliminary screening when companies responsible for core infrastructure introduce important equipment. We plan to submit a bill to amend the law to the Diet.

This was approved at a government meeting of experts aimed at strengthening economic security held on the 29th.

The Economic Security Promotion Act designates 14 industries such as electricity, communications, and finance as critical infrastructure, and states that when introducing important equipment, the government conducts a preliminary review to prevent cyber attacks. The system will begin operating from May.

However, in July of last year, a system failure occurred due to a cyber attack at the container terminal at Nagoya Port, temporarily making it impossible to load and unload containers. In order to prevent such situations, "port transportation" was also added to the scope. It was decided that it would be done.

The government plans to submit a bill to amend the Economic Security Promotion Act as early as the current regular session of the Diet. The government can check the preparedness for attacks in advance, and depending on the results, it can recommend or order companies to change the equipment they have installed.
