Expulsions of 15 European soldiers on mission in the country, French nationals turned away on their arrival at the airport in Niamey... The soldiers in power, who announced, this Sunday, January 28, with Mali and Burkina Faso, to leave the ECOWAS, increased retaliatory measures against members of the European community last weekend and two separate procedures were implemented by the authorities.

The first measure targets EUCAP Sahel - European mission of 120 people - created in 2012 to strengthen internal security, budget 72 million for the period 2022-2024. The ruling military called for an end to this process last December. The return to Niamey on January 24 of 15 soldiers from this mission visibly offended the junta.

On January 26, the Nigerien Minister of the Interior, General Toumba ordered their expulsion. They left Niger on Sunday evening. The head of EUCAP, the German Katja Dominik, was turned away during the night from Saturday to Sunday upon her arrival at Niamey airport.

The second measure concerns French nationals, at least five according to our information, who have also been expelled from the territory since last Thursday. On Saturday morning, it was in particular the person in charge of the World Food Program (WFP) in Niger who, despite his United Nations diplomatic passport, had to remain on the bridge before leaving on the same plane for Paris via Ankara in Turkey.
