The man, who is in his 20s, was out on a supervised walk in the grounds of the Sis home when, at around 1pm on Sunday, he ran away from the staff and jumped into a waiting car with several people.

- It is a person who, according to the police, must have connections to gang crime, says SVT's crime reporter Sofia Yohannes.

Had deviated earlier

The man is still at large.

- The person and the car are still wanted. We cooperate with the border police and police in other regions, says police spokesperson Roland Komaromi.

The man who escaped has previously been convicted of assault and suspected of murder. According to a judgment from last year, there have been indications of exoneration attempts. In connection with previous placements, the man has repeatedly deviated for longer periods.

There should not have been any threats or weapons, according to Hans Bouveng, head of department for Sis Bärby.

- We had nothing that could directly indicate that this would happen. But of course we want to take a closer look and see if there is something we can screw up and do better.

Sis boss: Fewer rooms

Hans Bouveng says that young people who deviate from Sis have always been a reality, but that the number has decreased sharply.

- We see a strong downward trend in both deviations and exemptions. We are talking in the order of 30 to 40 percent in 2023 compared to previous years.

Just before 8pm on Sunday evening, a man was found with serious gunshot wounds in the Stockholm suburb of Sätra. No person has been detained. The police are investigating whether there may be a connection between the events.

- It is a bit early to say, but we have a very good cooperation with our colleagues in Stockholm and it is clear that you have to check whether there is a connection between the shooting and the release or whether they are completely isolated incidents, says police spokesperson Roland Komaromi .
