The date for when traffic on Malmbanan can start was moved forward last Friday and according to the Swedish Transport Administration's new forecast, the trains can start rolling again on February 4.

This means that the stop on the Malmbanan will be 49 days.

For so long, LKAB has been allowed to pile its pellets from the plants in Kiruna and Svappavaara in the respective industrial areas. There will be at least 2.5 million tons of pellets in Kiruna and 0.5 million tons in Svappavaara.

LKAB: Will take a long time

And there doesn't seem to be any possibility of catching up with what you've lost in the near future. Instead, the goal is set on a long horizon.

- We see that this will take a very long time, until 2030 or longer, says Linda Bjurholt, logistics manager at LKAB.

The reason is the congestion on the Malmbanan. According to Bjurholt, it is probably so difficult to be able to transport the ore produced at the mines today to the ports in Narvik and Luleå.

This means that the ore stocks in Kiruna will be full for a long time to come. It is about ore pellets worth around five billion kroner.
