As violence resumes in Darfur, the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court reported Monday, January 29, before the United Nations Security Council. Karim Khan spoke by video from Adré, Chad, where he met with refugees from Darfur. The ICC was seized of crimes in Darfur in March 2005. Only one accused is currently on trial. The other suspects, ex-ministers as well as former president Omar al-Bashir, are still in Sudan. The prosecutor requested cooperation from the states.

The prosecutor denounced the crimes committed by both parties. Those of General al-Burhan's regular forces and the Rapid Support Forces, General Hemedti's militia. Suspended in April, at the start of the war, cooperation has resumed. But Karim Khan criticized the lack of response to his requests for assistance.

I met with General al-Burhan in September and he promised his cooperation with the ICC. But despite this promise, face to face, despite the fact-finding committee that the Sudanese armed forces said they had established to catalog and investigate allegations of crimes, we have not received any information

.”

The delegate from Sudan rejected the prosecutor's reproaches. He recalled that his investigators obtained visas and were expected in Port Sudan. For security reasons, they have not yet responded to the invitation. The diplomat also said that the United Arab Emirates should be investigated for its complicity with the Rapid Support Forces.
