On March 22, the Jussigalan starts when it is broadcast live on television.

Now it is clear which films are nominated for the gala, and there "Je'vida" became historic as the first Sami film to receive a total of seven Jussi nominations.

The film, which premiered in October last year, is written and directed by Katja Gauriloff, and is about the life of a Skoltesami woman.

Last week the film was awarded the Tromsö Palm and now it is nominated for Film of the Year, Photo of the Year, Music of the Year, Sound Design of the Year, Editing of the Year and Costume Design of the Year.

In addition, Katja Gauriloff and Niillas Holmberg have been nominated for this year's script.

- An absolutely fantastic feeling. On behalf of the entire team, I am proud to receive so many nominations and rightly so, says Gauriloff, to Yle.

"Máhccan" also nominated

In addition, "Máhccan - "Homecoming", which tells the story of Sami museum objects returning to their people, has been nominated for Documentary of the Year.

- Of course I am happy for the whole team. But when you make a film, you don't think about things like this, like the film should win awards or be nominated. We got to experience a lot of emotions already during the filming of the film, so these nominations don't matter that much. The biggest prize was getting to make this film with a lot of love, says director Suvi West to Yle.

The Jussi Award is one of Europe's oldest film awards, where the first Jussi statuettes were awarded back in 1944.

The gala does not distinguish between male and female actors, but actors regardless of gender can be nominated in the categories of best lead actor, best supporting actor, best newcomer and audience favorite.
