While the farmers' protest movement is gaining momentum this Monday, the main teaching unions are calling for a strike next Thursday. They denounce insufficient salaries, degraded working conditions and disagreements over Gabriel Attal's latest reforms.

Towards a national mobilization? After the farmers, the main teaching unions are calling for a strike this Thursday. The reasons for this movement are multiple: insufficient salaries, degraded working conditions and disagreements over the latest reforms launched by Gabriel Attal, such as the level groups in math and French in college. The cup is full.

The government, itself responsible

It is even overflowing according to the organizations mobilized since the arrival of the new minister Amélie Oudéa-Castéra whose comments on the unreplaced absences of teachers were shocking. “It was nothing new to announce that there were replacement problems. So, there was this first injury. And the second is to point the finger at the school as responsible for these absences. Because, if there is anyone responsible for the flight of parents to the private sector, it is the government itself,” assures Elisabeth Allain-Moreno, general secretary of the SE-Unsa union.

Education: after the departure of Gabriel Attal, the expectation of the teaching staff to complete the educational projects

And, another annoying subject, the level groups in math and French in college. A measure rejected by the teaching staff who fear more inequalities between students with a school differentiated between good and bad. Added to this are the difficulties of recruiting to set up these groups. “In fact, we are already having difficulty recruiting French and mathematics teachers. Multiplying the groups of these subjects will probably require more teachers with increased recruitment difficulty,” warns Mickaël Videau, principal in Ardèche. Non-qualified contract teachers will therefore be called upon to set up these groups.
