Yair Lapid: The current government is unable to manage the country in time of war (French)

Al Jazeera's correspondent reported that the Knesset General Assembly will vote today, Monday, on a proposal submitted by opposition leader Yair Lapid to withdraw confidence from the government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, which is the second attempt this January.

Israeli media indicated that the "There is a Future" party would present to the Knesset a motion of no confidence in Netanyahu's government, and quoted a statement from the party that the motion comes in response to the government's decision to put what it described as a "shameful" budget to a vote.

The "Ta'al Front" coalition in the Israeli Knesset also announced that it will submit, today, Monday, a motion to withdraw confidence from the government, calling for an end to the war on the Gaza Strip, achieving a prisoner exchange deal, and developing a political path towards a peace process.

The Arab bloc’s proposal stated that the war government would destroy and shed the blood of thousands of dead Israelis and Palestinians. It also indicated that the government refuses to set any political horizon for the peace agreement, because it takes a political position that is contingent on continuing the war in Gaza, according to what was stated in the statement.

The proposal also stated that the government is obstructing reaching any agreement to return detainees within the prisoner exchange process, because the continuation of the war serves its interests, even though the price is the lives of the detainees and the two peoples.

The proposal stressed the need to end the war to launch a new political path that leads to the conclusion of a just peace process.

Israel needs immediate change

For his part, Lapid said that the current government is unable to manage the country in a time of war, considering that Israel needs change now.

He added that Netanyahu's government is stealing taxpayers' money and is trying to hide its theft in budget items that no one understands.

During the plenary session of the Knesset last week, Lapid pointed out that the Knesset and the government are part of the problem, and pointed out that Israel has never known grief like what it is witnessing in this period, and that he does not know how they reached this state.

The Knesset previously failed to hold a session to withdraw confidence from the Netanyahu government, which was called for by Labor Party leader Merav Michaeli.

The failure of the session came after it was boycotted by members of the ruling coalition in Israel, as only 18 members agreed to the motion to withdraw confidence.

The process of withdrawing confidence requires a vote of at least 61 members of the Knesset on the proposal, and the government coalition led by Netanyahu has a majority of 64 seats in the Knesset, which makes it difficult to pass the proposal.

Pressure is increasing inside and outside Israel on Netanyahu due to the way he is managing the war on Gaza, his failure to achieve the declared goals, and the failure to reach a deal to exchange prisoners and detainees with the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), amid accusations that he is seeking to prolong the war in order to remain in power for a longer period.

Confrontations broke out between Israeli police and demonstrators in Tel Aviv, who raised slogans demanding the departure of Netanyahu's government yesterday, Sunday.

Israeli protesters continue to demonstrate in various areas of Tel Aviv, demanding the release of prisoners detained in the Gaza Strip and the holding of early elections to change the government. At the same time, Netanyahu considers the demonstrations of detainees' families to be unhelpful, increases Hamas' demands, and delays the release of detainees.
