In the first 9 months of the year, before Operation Al-Aqsa Flood and the war on Gaza on October 7, passenger traffic increased 38.5% year-on-year to 19.1 million, but it declined after that to record the largest decline at 78% in November, and 71%. In December, according to the Airport Authority.

Almost all foreign airlines have stopped flying to and from Israel as a result of the war and intense rocket attacks from Gaza.

“Ben Gurion continues to work while monitoring and maintaining the safety and security of aircraft and passengers,” said the airport’s managing director, Udi Bar Oz.

Last December, only 7 foreign airlines sent flights to Israel, while nearly 80% of passengers traveled on El Al planes, followed by the smaller Israeli airline “Israir” by 10%, and Flydubai by 3.2%.

In 2023, 3 million tourists visited Israel, up from 2.7 million in 2022.
