China News Service, Hong Kong, January 1 (Reporter Dai Menglan) Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation and Radio Television Hong Kong signed a three-year cooperation agreement in Hong Kong on January 5. The two parties announced that they will achieve data sharing and leverage the data resources of RTHK's more than 5-year-old radio and television programmes to further promote the development of artificial intelligence (AI) and innovation and technology industries in Hong Kong.

Under the terms of the agreement, RTHK will share historical data with TechParks and Techmakers (I&T) in the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Park through the "Digital Living Lab" under the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP), which can apply to use the programme data to train their AI models or develop other cutting-edge technologies.

As mentioned in the agreement, Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) and Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) will co-host the ABU Robocon 2026. Hong Kong, China has performed well in previous tournaments, finishing runners-up last year. By hosting this international competition, the two parties hope to continue to nurture interdisciplinary technical talents from Hong Kong's tertiary institutions.

In addition, RTHK will share with HKSTP its specific business and operational challenges, and seek collaboration with technology companies to drive the digital transformation of the media industry.

Mr Sun Dong, Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry of the HKSAR Government, attended the signing ceremony of the cooperation agreement and delivered a speech. He said he was very pleased to see the collaboration between HKSTP and RTHK at the beginning of the new year in nurturing I&T talents, building smart broadcasting and promoting data sharing.

Albert Wong, Chief Executive Officer of HKSTP, said that the collaboration focuses on unlocking the value of data and nurturing I&T talent, and looks forward to the two parties working together to promote the development of Hong Kong's AI industry and I&T ecosystem.

The Director of Broadcasting at RTHK, Mr Cheung Kwok-choi, said he was pleased to partner with Hong Kong's largest I&T ecosystem led by Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) and to create new growth and R&D opportunities by leveraging RTHK's more than 90 years of broadcast data.

RTHK also signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with a research centre at the University of Chinese Hong Kong to explore the use of AI technology in media production and broadcasting scenarios.

The Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) is a statutory body established by the HKSAR Government to manage and operate I&T parks such as the Hong Kong Science Park. Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) is a constituent department of the HKSAR Government and the only public service broadcaster in Hong Kong. (ENDS)
