The head of the EC noted that the leaders decided to open negotiations on the membership of Kyiv and Chisinau in the EU. This day, according to von der Leyen, will go down in the history of the bloc.

"A strategic decision and a day that will remain etched in the history of our union. I am proud that we were able to keep our promises, and I am happy for our partners," she wrote on the social network X.

Earlier, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that Budapest did not participate in the decision to start negotiations with Kyiv on joining the EU.
