Chinanews.com, Beijing, December 12 (Reporter Xing Chong) Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin hosted a regular press conference on December 6.

A reporter's question: Yesterday, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said that the EU will not accept a long-term imbalance in trade with China. What is China's response to this? Is China worried about the possibility of a future trade war with the EU?

Wang Wenbin: First of all, I would like to tell you that China has never deliberately pursued a trade surplus, on the contrary, we have continued to promote high-level opening-up by actively holding the China International Import Expo and the International Supply Chain Promotion Expo. We welcome all countries to better share China's huge market of more than 14.<> billion people.

The current state of trade between China and the EU is the result of the macroeconomic environment, the terms of international trade and the industrial structure of both sides. The trade data also does not reflect the distribution pattern of China-EU trade benefits under the integration of global industrial and supply chains. More than one-third of the exports of European companies in China are sold back to Europe. On the surface, China has a surplus, but most of the profits are on the European side. In addition, buying and selling is a matter for both sides, and if the European side sets strict restrictions on the export of high-tech products to China on the one hand, and hopes to increase exports to China by a large margin on the other, it may not be reasonable for the European side.

Whether it is to solve the outstanding problems facing Europe or effectively respond to global challenges, China is a trustworthy and indispensable partner of the EU. Properly handling differences through dialogue and consultation is an important experience in the development of China-EU relations. It is hoped that the EU will work with China in the same direction, create a good atmosphere for the successful holding of the China-EU summit, and make joint efforts for the healthy and stable development of China-EU relations.
