"On October 18, at about 17:40 Moscow time, the Kiev regime attempted a terrorist attack with S-200 anti-aircraft missiles converted into a strike version on the territory of Crimea," the statement said.

Russian air defense forces intercepted missiles in the air, the department said.

Fragments of missiles fell in a deserted area with subsequent detonation on the ground.

There were no casualties or damage as a result of the attack.

In Sevastopol, on the evening of October 18, an air alert was announced.

At the same time, the Military Chronicle reported that there were four NATO reconnaissance aircraft 150 km from Crimea: a high-altitude unmanned RQ-4 Global Hawk, a Bombardier Challenger 650 Artemis electronic reconnaissance aircraft, as well as two P-8A Poseidon anti-submarine aircraft of the US Navy.

According to the head of the city, the attack was repelled by the Black Sea Fleet in the area of Sukharnaya Balka.
