Beijing, 10 Oct (ZXS) -- Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and foreign minister, held the 13th round of the China-EU High-level Strategic Dialogue with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Borrell in Beijing on 13 October.

Wang Yi said that China attaches great importance to its relations with Europe, regards the EU as an important and independent pole in a multipolar world, and China-EU relations have an internal logic and are not influenced and interfered with by third parties. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the China-EU comprehensive strategic partnership, and the two sides have fully resumed exchanges at all levels, especially the successful holding of high-level meetings in the fields of green, digital, economy and trade, forming new consensus and achievements, demonstrating the resilience and vitality of China-EU relations, and highlighting the global influence and world significance of China-EU relations. President Xi Jinping has pointed out that China and the EU should adhere to peaceful coexistence, openness and cooperation, multilateralism, and dialogue and consultation. Practice has proved that this is an important experience in the development of bilateral relations since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the EU, and it is also the guiding principle for deepening cooperation in the future.

Wang Yi stressed that at present, the international situation is chaotic and intertwined, and the world is at a critical crossroads. Both China and the EU are facing new situations and new tasks in development and reform, and China-EU relations are also facing new opportunities and challenges. At this important moment, we should establish correct mutual understanding, adhere to the positioning of partnership, consolidate political mutual trust, and avoid misunderstanding and misjudgment through strategic dialogue. It is necessary to make full preparations for the summit before the end of the year, promote dialogue and cooperation, adhere to mutual openness, expand trade and investment, oppose "decoupling and breaking chains", and activate people-to-people exchanges; It is necessary to properly handle differences, remove obstacles to cooperation, and ensure the healthy and stable development of China-EU relations; We should hold high the banner of multilateralism, jointly respond to international and regional hot spots, and provide more stability and certainty to the world.

Borrell said that the EU attaches importance to relations with China and is committed to developing constructive and stable EU-China relations. The EU is the most open economy, and EU-China economic and trade cooperation is in the interests of both sides. The EU will not close its doors to China, will not fight a trade war, has no intention of restricting China's development, and is happy to see China's prosperity and stability. The EU side looks forward to strengthening cooperation with China in addressing climate change, seeking to establish more balanced and equal economic and trade relations, accumulating tangible results for the EU-China summit, and providing a fairer and more just business environment for enterprises. The two sides can strengthen coordination and cooperation, promote the reform of the World Trade Organization, and avoid the world being divided into two camps, which is not in the interests of either side.

Wang Yi said that there are no geopolitical contradictions between China and the EU, no major conflicts of interest, and some have extensive common interests and huge cooperation needs. The two sides should focus their efforts and attention on cooperation and consolidate their partnership. The government should create a level playing field for businesses and provide positive expectations, economic issues should not be politicized, and the two sides should jointly defend free trade and uphold the principle of fair competition.

The two sides exchanged views on the Ukraine crisis and the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, and agreed that political settlement of relevant issues should be promoted. Wang Yi said that only through negotiations can the Ukrainian crisis be ended. China will not give up persuading peace and promoting talks, and will always stand on the side of peace and dialogue. China and the EU should jointly create conditions for a political settlement and promote Europe's return to peace and stability. Regarding the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, Wang Yi stressed that China opposes attacks on civilians and condemns practices that violate international law. It is imperative to prevent the situation from expanding and to avoid a deterioration of the situation, especially without a serious humanitarian catastrophe. All parties concerned have the responsibility to de-escalate the situation, form international consensus and binding measures on the implementation of the two-state solution, and realize peaceful coexistence between Palestine and Israel.

The two sides also exchanged views on issues of common concern, such as climate change and public health. (End)
