This statement was made by the head of the EU foreign policy service, Josep Borrell, during his speech to the staff of the community mission in Kiev, reports TASS.

According to him, European countries support Kiev in the armed conflict and in Ukraine becoming a member of the EU.

"The first is a terrible fight, the second is a difficult fight. Not terrible, because people are not dying, but it will still be difficult, and you must do everything to make Ukrainian society work for this," Borrell said.

He added that this is a serious promise of Europe and "it cannot be empty," and Ukraine's accession to the EU will not take place in the near future, it should happen earlier, because "this is the best guarantee of Ukraine's security."

Earlier, Borrell said that EU countries had provided assistance to Kyiv in the amount of €85 billion.
