Federal Finance Minister Christian Lindner (FDP) sees similarities between the climate activists of the group Letzte Generation and the right-wing AfD – and warns in both cases of dangers for the country. "Climate glue and the AfD – their programs lead to the fact that Germany would be economically ruined," Lindner said at a conference of the news portal "The Pioneer".

While the climate glue program has "enormous effects on our economic stability," the AfD's goal of leading Germany out of the European Union as the largest sales market is also consequential.

"Against them, Brexit would only be a premonition," he said. "I want to put this quite provocatively in parallel: They also want another country, the AfD – just like the climate glue," said the FDP leader.

Members of the climate protection group Letzte Generation had recently sprayed paint on all the pillars of the Brandenburg Gate, and the police arrested 14 activists. Now investigations are underway for damage to property that is harmful to the public.

Activists block highway in Berlin

On Thursday, activists of the group blocked traffic on the Autobahn 100 in several places in Berlin. They did not stick to the street as usual, but strengthened the blockade near the exhibition grounds in the west of Berlin, according to their own statements, with several rented cars.

Activists glued themselves with their hands under the vehicles. In addition, some protesters are said to have chained themselves to parts of the vehicles with metal clamps. In other places, too, activists blocked a number of ramps to Berlin's city motorway with sit-ins. There were traffic jams. According to police, the last blockade was dissolved at 11:13 a.m. Around 300 officers were deployed.
