Ukraine continues to advance on the southeastern front

Ukraine continues to advance on the southeastern front, where it expands the arc of its counteroffensive, while Russia suffered new attacks with Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles in five regions, including Pskov, already on Wednesday target of enemy drones that Kiev launched from Russian territory.

Russian authorities said Friday they shot down a drone approaching Moscow, two more in the border regions of Belgorod and Bryansk, while a fourth drone attacked the town of Kurchatov, in the Kursk region, which houses a nuclear power plant.

A representative of Ukraine's military intelligence (GUR), Andri Yusov, told the Ukrainian newspaper RBC that Russian air defenses did not shoot down the drone near Moscow's Lyubertsy district, as it allegedly set fire to the Tomilinsky plant that produces electronic components for missiles.

However, the Russian Telegram channel Shot published a video recorded today from the factory in which no fire is seen, reports Efe.

Kremlin: Putin and Erdogan to meet on September 4 in Sochi

Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan will meet on September 4 in the Russian resort of Sochi to discuss the war in Ukraine and the resumption of the Black Sea grain agreements. "The negotiations will indeed take place on Monday, in Sochi," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed today at his daily press briefing.

Peskov added that talks between the two leaders will take place "at noon." It will be the first meeting between Putin and Erdogan after Moscow's exit last July from the pact for the export of grain through the Black Sea.

Turkey considers that there is no alternative to the Black Sea Initiative, which operated for a year. Meanwhile, Russia wants to propose to Turkey the supply of 1 million tons of Russian grain at a reduced price so that the cereal can be processed in Turkish companies and then sent to the neediest countries.

This Russian proposal, which would have the financial support of Qatar, is an initiative of the Russian president and Moscow considers it "an optimal alternative to the Black Sea agreement" for the export of Ukrainian grain and Russian grain and fertilizers.

Zelensky: "There is no force on the other side of the front, only crimes against humanity"

Volodímir Zelenski has assured this Friday in an intervention by videoconference in the Ambrosetti Forum that Putin is trying to hide his weakness and "distract the world" by sowing "chaos in Africa", but "terror does not mean force".

"

There is no force on the other side of the front, only crimes against humanity, the world sees everything. Who sees strength in a missile launched against a plane that is flying in peace, who sees strength in a leader who has to move around his own country in an armored vehicle? We see weakness, not strength," he explained in his speech at the opening of the meeting in Cernobbio (northern Italy).

"Even when they are trying to create chaos in Africa. They are not proving to be strong, but distracting the world. Terror does not mean strength," he added.

Relations between Russia and the West will no longer be as before and to think otherwise is to build "sandcastles," Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Friday. "The expectations of those who regret the collapse of our relations with our Western colleagues and think that one day everything will return to normal are sandcastles," he said.

The West's line to deliver a "strategic defeat to Russia" in Ukraine "is not going to disappear in the near future." "We are well aware of that," Lavrov said. In addition, he said that in case Western countries propose to return to "relatively normal" relations, Moscow will consider whether it has to agree to it. "We will not cooperate with the West in those areas on which our security depends," he stressed.

Ukraine expands its offensive in the south

The Ukrainian Army continues to progress in its advance towards the town of Novoprokopivka, on the Zaporizhia front, while expanding to the east the arc of its offensive approaching from the liberated Robotine to the occupied Verbove, according to Ukrainian military and independent sources.

"In the Novodanilivka-Novoprokopivka direction (south of Robotine) they have made progress, gained a foothold in the regained territories and inflicted artillery fire damage on identified enemy targets," Ukrainian General Staff spokesman Andri Kovalov said Friday.

Meanwhile, the Center for Defense Strategies (CED) claims in its daily bulletin on the war that Kiev's troops have taken "key" high ground northeast of Novoprokopivka.

According to the Ukrainian think tank, the Ukrainian Army has forced the Russians to withdraw from several high-ranking troops they controlled in that section of the front, in which the Ukrainian offensive approaches the front in a less localized manner and is distributed along the Russian defensive line to force the enemy to disperse its troops to protect it.
