United Nations, 7 Jul (ZXS) -- At an open meeting of the Security Council on 13 July, Ambassador Zhang Jun, Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations, severely refuted the recent NATO Vilnius summit communiqué slandering and smearing China.

Zhang Jun said that the Cold War has long ended, but the "ghost" of the Cold War mentality has been floating over the world, which has not only led to the delay of the Korean Peninsula issue, but also caused the intensification of confrontation and confrontation and contradictions and conflicts on a global scale. As a product of the Cold War, NATO has been trapped in this "ghost" so far. NATO recently held the Vilnius Summit, and the communiqué issued by the meeting is full of old tunes, full of Cold War mentality and ideological prejudice. The communiqué's unprovoked attack and accusation against China in disregard of the basic facts is completely backwards and hypocritical. China firmly opposes this.

Zhang Jun said that NATO claims to be a regional organization, but it has broken through the geographical scope stipulated in its own treaty, invaded the world, and moved east into the Asia-Pacific region, bringing more negative impacts and destructive factors to regional and even global security. NATO claims to be a defensive alliance, but it encourages its members to continuously increase military spending, conduct military activities around the world, and constantly expand its power across borders to provoke confrontation. NATO, which claims to defend the "rules-based international order," has repeatedly violated international law and basic norms governing international relations, interfered in other countries' internal affairs, provoked many wars, bombed diplomatic facilities, killed innocent civilians, and left a bad mark. Individual NATO members pursue double standards, promote nuclear sharing, "nuclear alliances", and further exacerbate regional tensions. Countless facts have proved that NATO is the real troublemaker.

Zhang Jun stressed that NATO's accusations against China have no basis in fact. China is a builder of world peace, a contributor to global development and a defender of international order. China firmly upholds the international system with the United Nations at its core, the international order based on international law and the basic norms governing international relations based on the purposes and principles of the UN Charter. When it comes to peace and security, China is the best major country on record. China has never invaded other countries, never engaged in proxy wars, never carried out military operations around the world, did not threaten other countries with force, did not export ideology, and did not interfere in other countries' internal affairs. Can NATO do this? China abides by the policy of not being the first to use nuclear weapons at any time and under any circumstances, and unconditionally undertakes not to use or threaten to use nuclear weapons against non-nuclear-weapon States or nuclear-weapon-free zones. Can NATO members make such a commitment? China does not cause trouble, but it is not afraid of trouble. We will resolutely and forcefully counter any act that infringes upon China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, harms China's security and development interests, and undermines peace and stability around China.

Zhang Jun pointed out that in the era of globalization, the world is safe and secure, no one lives in a vacuum, and no country enjoys "absolute security". If countries want to achieve their own security, they cannot ignore the legitimate security concerns of other countries, base their own security on the insecurity of other countries, put their own security fences at the doorsteps of others, and cannot only allow themselves to set fires and prevent others from lighting lamps. Security is indivisible, which is a characteristic of the times and the starting point for achieving common security. China has always adhered to the concept of common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable security, and President Xi Jinping's global security initiative is the direction and answer given by China to promote the realization of common security in response to the current international security dilemma. China is willing to work with the international community to build a balanced, effective and sustainable security architecture through sincere and pragmatic dialogue and cooperation, so as to promote the realization of lasting peace and common security.
