• Courts The 'clan of the Bosnias' escapes jail in exchange for paying a fine of 1,800 euros

They are Croatian and Bosnian teenagers and were born with a price. They were sold by their own parents to a mafia headed by a man who lived in Alcorcón and who paid between 35,000 euros and 85,000 euros for each teenager who, in addition, had to marry members of his clan. The National Police and the Mossos d'Esquadra have dismantled this criminal organization that brought girls to Spain to force them to commit thefts and to prostitute them to obtain exorbitant figures of benefits of up to 5,000 euros per month. They had been investigating them since 2022. There are six detainees, all Croats and Bosniaks, and four girls and several minors have been released, as many of the victims have had children with their own captors. The operation involved seven watches and four diamonds valued at 655,000 euros.

The dismantled organization recruited women in their places of origin and at a very young age. Taking advantage of their low socio-cultural and economic level, they were deceived with false promises of a better life outside their country and with the obtaining of an income with which to help their families.

However, the reality was different and, when they arrived in Spain, they were subjected to an atmosphere of extreme violence. They were exploited to exhaustion and subjugated by exploiters who demanded a large amount of money weekly, in some cases up to 5,000 euros, which they had to obtain by committing thefts from tourists in the subways of Madrid and Barcelona. They were also prostituted and sometimes sexually assaulted.

The network was led by the men of the clan, although there were two women who played an important role in controlling and supervising the activities of the victims.

Three house searches have been carried out, one of them in the Madrid town of Alcorcón and two in the Barcelona town of Sabadell, in which the seven watches valued at 495,000 euros, the four diamonds valued at 160,000 euros, a vehicle, 6,015 euros and 771 dollars in cash, various gold jewelry, numerous electronic and computer devices and abundant crucial documentation for the investigation have been intervened.

The investigations of the agents have concluded that this criminal network was part of a broader group of organizations composed of clans of Bosnian origin spread throughout Europe dedicated to the commission of various crimes.

This operation is part of the National Police Plan against Trafficking in Human Beings for the Purpose of Sexual Exploitation. The National Police has the telephone line 900 10 50 90 and the trata@policia.es mail to facilitate citizen collaboration and anonymous and confidential reporting of this type of crime, the call not being reflected in the telephone bill.
