AMMAN – Every human being strives to achieve happiness and dreams of living a carefree life, away from the misery and difficulties of the world. However, happiness stems from the depths of man and his view of the things and details that fill his diary.

The richest people, for example, may find unhappy people complaining of depression and boredom, while the poorest of them smile, content with their lives and their share of it.

There are those who say that if you decide to be happy and want happiness, you will get it. And if you decide to be unhappy and focus on your problems, so will your life. Can man train himself for happiness?

Researcher and social consultant Dr. Fadia Ibrahim confirms that happiness is contagious and depression as well, "Therefore, surround yourself with positive people and stay away from negative ones, because positive people have a solution to every problem, while negative people have a problem for every solution."

Ibrahim points out that a family's happiness depends on its members' ability to adapt to each other and their level of emotional upbringing. A happy family is known for how resilient its members are, reflected in inclusive discussions between them, developing alternative strategies when needed, learning lessons from difficult situations, and facing crises together.

In addition, each individual is aware of his duties and rights towards others, which is meant here: emotional and human duties. "So, happiness within the family is not a single state and is independent of the happiness of others or the rest of the family," Ibrahim said.

However, this equation does not apply to the workplace, as co-workers do not affect the level of happiness, which gives the impression that the social framework within the work affects the level of comfort and achievement more than controlling the feeling of happiness.

Happiness among friends

"Happiness between friends is really contagious, because we share our feelings and a part of our lives and social activities with our friends. Sometimes friends in the virtual world are the cause of our happiness, as some of them can take away your sadness, as if it were not."

"We always have to assess our mental state and mood and ask ourselves: are we really happy or not? If we are unhappy, we should look for the real reasons for this, and try to get rid of everything that bothers us, harms us, or distances us from happiness."

Therefore, we must take care of our physical and psychological health and get rid of toxic relationships in our lives, and get closer to positive people who make our lives better, because man is the son of his environment, and a healthy environment without problems gives birth to happy people.

Happiness is transmitted over the air

Life skills coach Jane Salaita agrees with Dr. Fadia Ibrahim that happiness is as contagious as depression, saying, "These emotions produce frequencies (vibrations) and travel over the air and attract similar vibrations. The happy person who enjoys sends to the universe high-frequency vibrations, and the universe responds to him by sending similar positive creative ideas, so his happiness and productivity increase and his body's immunity rises, so he looks more youthful, and spreads happiness to those around him, because the energy of a positive person is higher than 6,<> negative people."

Materialism does not bring happiness

As for the individual's thinking about happiness, Salaita believes that there is a psychological rule that says that people seek to achieve material goals, such as: success, money, marriage, having children, getting a house and a car... and others, in order to obtain happiness.

She adds: "Here, a person continues to strive all his life to achieve materialism, which makes him feel temporary pleasure that disappears once the goal is achieved, and he continues to seek happiness through materialism, and he will not get it. Materialism and achievements may be means of pleasure, but they do not bring happiness."

How to train yourself for happiness?

But how does one train oneself to get happiness? Salaita proposes the following steps:

  • To be satisfied with what he is now, accept his current situation, and have a real intention to constantly develop himself.
  • The person should be neutral in his judgment of events, not give them negative names, and maintain his calm and inner peace when problems and challenges occur.
  • To view difficulties as a challenging game, and convince himself that he can overcome them. Here, inspirational creative ideas come to him, and he can reach the solution.
  • To be in a state of inner purity, in intention, heart, mind, work and tongue. This can only be done if man employs all his existence for good and giving.
  • Happiness is a decision a person takes, and a lifestyle that an individual lives.
  • Thanks and gratitude for the blessings you have, by enumerating them daily and writing them down.

Does science believe that happiness is contagious?

Trackinghappiness published a study on how important happiness is in all our experiences, using cluster analysis, a methodology used to analyze groups well.

The researchers found that "happiness is not just a function of individual experience or choice, but also has the property of groups." This does not necessarily mean that happy people make the people around them feel happy, what happens is that they look for other happy people and exclude those who are depressed from their social circle.

Study co-author Dr. Nicholas Christakis, an assistant professor in the Department of Health Care at Harvard Medical School and the Department of Sociology, says the most exciting part of the study is that people who were in happiness groups were predictably happy for years at a time, suggesting that monitoring happiness can at least make a person happy for a long period of time.
