Ukrainian authorities said Russia carried out a new air strike on Ukraine overnight with cruise missiles and drones, while reports of new military aid from the United States to Kiev worth two billion dollars were received.

The Ukrainian military said on Friday morning that it shot down 4 of the 6 cruise missiles launched by Russia, and shot down 10 of the 16 attack drones during the attack, which the Ukrainian Air Force said lasted about 6 hours overnight.

For its part, the Ukrainian Interior Ministry said that one person was killed and 3 others were injured, and noted that the falling debris caused the destruction of 4 buildings.

The ministry posted photos on Telegram of fire crews dealing with an apparently burning fire in an apartment building.

Dead in Donetsk

Ukrainian authorities in the eastern Donetsk region also announced one dead and 7 wounded as a result of Russian shelling on several cities in the province.

For its part, the military administration in the northeastern province of Kharkiv announced that a medical facility and residential buildings were damaged by shelling and drone attack last night.

In contrast, local authorities loyal to Russia reported that 3 people were wounded in Ukrainian shelling targeting the city of Gorlovka in the Donetsk region.

It is noteworthy that Gorlovka is subjected to daily bombardment with dozens of shells and rockets, due to its geographical location, which connects the strategic city of Pakhmut with the city of Donetsk, the capital of the province.

Kakhovka Dam disaster

Meanwhile, Ukrainian authorities continue to deal with the fallout from the destruction of the Nova Kakhovka dam in the south of the country.

Ukraine's military administration in Kherson province said the level of water overflowing after the dam was destroyed had dropped to about 5.35 metres.

The military administration said 3624,2352 houses had so far been flooded and that authorities had evacuated <>,<> people from the affected areas.

On the other hand, Bloomberg quoted informed sources that the Pentagon is preparing to provide a new aid package to Ukraine worth two billion dollars.

The sources explained that this package will include equipment to support Ukrainian air defense.

The news came hours after US President Joe Biden held talks with British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak in Washington, during which they stressed the need to deter Russia in Ukraine and boost support for Kiev.
