The government's intellectual property promotion plan has been decided. Considering that there is a risk that documents and images similar to the original work will be generated by generative AI and copyright infringement will occur one after another, the company will organize the points of contention such as what kind of cases apply and consider countermeasures.

The Government of Japan held a meeting of the Intellectual Property Strategy Headquarters at the Prime Minister's Office on September 9 to decide on a plan for promoting this year.

As a result, it is pointed out that generative AI, which is rapidly spreading around the world, may produce documents and images that resemble the original works of copyrighted works, such as literature and works of art, and may lead to a series of copyright infringements.

On top of that, we will organize the points of discussion on what constitutes infringement and how to protect the rights of creators, and proceed with consideration of countermeasures.

On the other hand, since the use of generative AI also improves the efficiency of creative activities, we will also discuss how to advance technology.

In addition, with the promotion of digitalization, the creation of content such as anime and music will become a core growth industry, and the establishment of a new forum for public-private partnership discussions is included in order to strengthen international sales capabilities.

At the meeting, Prime Minister Kishida stated, "In order to promote 'responsible AI' and 'reliable AI,' we will consider necessary measures, including responses to specific risks such as copyright infringement."
