Chad: FNDJT coordinator Adoum Tchamaymi died in fighting in Tibesti

After a week of clashes between the army and the rebels of the Front de la Nation pour la démocratie et la Justice (FNDJT), until three days ago in the Wour sector of Tibesti province, northern Chad, the two sides had given contradictory assessments of these fighting. The No. 2 of the FNDJT admits, the attack they suffered Sunday, June 4 at dawn "was a very hard blow".

After three days of incessant clashes against the soldiers in pursuit, a group of rebel fighters had entrenched themselves the day before in a cave in the Tibesti massifs that they consider safe.

It is a place known only to them and surrounded by a minefield, they fall asleep from the sleep of the righteous, because they think they are safe.

But in the meantime, the army, helped by an accomplice who made them cross the minefield, surrounded them and launched its attack at dawn, according to Youssouf Tolli.

The rebellion lost several fighters, including two senior officers, the FNDJT operations commander and the commander of a motorized squadron.

The Chadian army does not know, but the leader of this rebellion, Adoum Tchamaïmi, was at the scene and was wounded during the clashes. His close guard managed to exfiltrate him from the area and brought him back to his main base in southern Libya, where he succumbed to his wounds two days ago.

On the side of N'Djamena, we exult, the Minister of Defense, General Daoud Yaya Brahim speaks of "a total victory" over the enemy. The No. 2 of the rebel movement minimizes: "We lost a battle, but it did not affect the bulk of our forces," says Youssouf Tolli.
