The police in Sweden cannot confirm that the man is registered in western Sweden, but according to French authorities it is a person who is resident in Sweden.

"He has had refugee status in Sweden for ten years," says French Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne.

French police have released the man's name and year of birth. He is in his 30s and according to SVT's information he has been written in West Sweden for some time and in Sweden since 2013. In the same place there is also his wife and her family. He has previous convictions for welfare offences.

Contact with relatives

SVT has been in contact with relatives of the man.

"He was part of our family but has disappeared from Sweden," says a relative of the suspected perpetrator.

The police in Sweden do not comment on the man's identity at this time.

– What I can say is that we are aware of events in France and are following developments closely and we are in close contact with the French police, they are the ones who lead the work, says Sofia Hellqvist, press secretary at the police.
