Europe 1 Studio SEASON 2022 - 202305h55, 08 June 2023

In the 1990s, Mexico became the scene of a gigantic cocaine trafficking. To reinject the wads of money amassed by drug cartels into the legal economy, dirty money must be laundered, with the blessing of the country's political representatives. Mexico is then governed by the Institutional Revolutionary Party or PRI, corruption is everywhere and two names are imposed, those of two brothers: Carlos and Raul Salinas, "the Kennedys of Mexico".

Carlos Salinas becomes President of Mexico. He was 40 years old when he was elected head of the country. To his voters he promised a "new political culture". But behind the scenes, from the beginning, he turns a blind eye to drug trafficking and the violence that goes with it. And the more years pass, the more blood will flow...

Soon, suspicious sums arrived on dozens of Swiss accounts. Raul Salinas, and his wife Paulina Castañon, will soon be caught red-handed. The scene takes place in Geneva, in the offices of the Pictet & Cie bank...

To investigate the dirty money of the "Kennedys of Mexico", journalists Marie Maurisse and François Pilet went to question former Swiss magistrates Bernard Bertossa and Carla del Ponte.

The podcast "Dangerous millions" tells you how Switzerland became the washing machine for scammers from all over the world. Welcome to the hushed world of financial crime. Who, in this episode, takes us into the sulphurous world of drug cartels, in Mexico.
