The US Congress said about the "stupidity" of Washington, which "cannot focus on peace" and the "rapprochement" of Russia and Ukraine to end the hostilities between the parties. This was expressed by a member of the House of Representatives Marjorie Taylor Greene.

"I will not vote for the allocation of funds to Ukraine and will oppose it. Politicians in Washington are beating the drums of war and demanding that the American people pay for it. Washington is so stupid in such matters," she wrote on her Twitter page.

Green also attached a video to the post, in which she explained her position regarding the intention to "prevent the allocation of funds" to the Kyiv regime by the United States.

"I can't understand why Washington can't focus on world peace and rapprochement between these two countries (Russia and Ukraine. - RT) to put an end to this war. Instead, (politicians in Washington. — RT) They beat their chests, beat the drums of war and demand that the American people pay for it. In my opinion, this is ridiculous. I am ashamed of them. I say, "Shame on them!" said Green, answering journalists' questions.

She also noted that she does not understand why, instead of solving its internal problems, Washington pays so much attention to the Ukrainian issue.

"How about (achievements. — RT) target? How about stopping it all? How about Americans not paying for it? Especially when our border is ignored, as is the American people. How many homeless people do we have? How many people have mental disorders? How many people use drugs? 300 people (in the United States. — RT) dies daily. Why do we finance Ukraine? I can't understand it. Normal people don't understand this," she said.

Earlier, a group of 19 Republican lawmakers, including Green, called on US President Joe Biden to stop sending aid and weapons to Ukraine "in an unlimited amount." The document notes that such support could lead to an escalation of the conflict, as well as to a clash with Russia.

"The United States' unlimited assistance to Ukraine should be stopped, and we will strongly oppose any further aid packages unless they are linked to a clear diplomatic strategy aimed at ending this war as soon as possible," the document says.

It is also noted that, given the scale of US assistance to the Kyiv regime, "it is becoming increasingly difficult" to refute Russia's accusations that the United States is involved "in a proxy war."

"Supporting a foreign government that has long been mired in corruption while the American people suffer from record inflation and exorbitant public debt is in itself extremely irresponsible. But to do this when our military is dealing with aging weapons systems and depletion of stocks is simply shameful, "the document emphasizes.

It is also noted that "unlimited arms transfers" are not among the appropriate ways in which the United States "can support the Ukrainian people."

"Not the 51st state of the United States"

Recall that this is not the first time that the US Congress has criticized the fact that Washington has provided military assistance to Kyiv.

So, in early March, the representative of the Republican Party and former White House strategist Steve Bannon spoke out against the fighting in Ukraine in front of a crowd of his fans. According to him, any Republican who supports this "must be thrown out."

In the same month, on the topic of the Ukrainian conflict and the provision of assistance to Kiev from Washington, the contenders for the presidency of the United States from the Republican Party, Donald Trump and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, outlined their position.

In an interview with Fox News, Trump made a statement that the fighting in Ukraine is not in the interests of the United States, "but in line with European ones." DeSantis believes that the United States is not interested in further involvement in this confrontation. He believes that the American authorities do not need to provide assistance that requires the deployment of United States troops or allows the Ukrainian military to participate in offensive operations outside Ukraine.

For his part, Republican Congressman Matt Goetz urged Biden not to drag the United States into the Ukrainian conflict, because, as he noted on Twitter, if the escalation continues, "counting lost dollars will turn into counting dead Americans."

In turn, Congressman Paul Gosar demanded an end to aid to Kyiv, calling the "American intervention" in the hostilities in Ukraine a "grandiose catastrophe" that kills "hundreds and thousands of people both among the military and among the civilian population." Gosar's statement was published on the official website of the parliamentarian. The report emphasizes that the American side "wasted $ 100 billion on waging a proxy war" where it "does not belong." Gosar called for no longer allocating "even ten cents to finance weapons or weapons systems in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine," but to redirect these funds to the needs of the Americans themselves.

In April, a member of the House of Representatives, Green, said that "Ukraine is not the 51st state of the United States," and therefore Washington should not ignore the "problems of its own people" by supplying weapons to the Kyiv regime.

Later that month, Gosar clarified his position, saying that the United States should stop providing significant support to Ukraine, since the American population is experiencing economic difficulties, in particular, "they can hardly afford food and gasoline at the same time."

"Discontent will grow"

As Vladimir Batyuk, head of the Center for Military-Political Studies of the Institute of the USA and Canada of the Russian Academy of Sciences, said in an interview with RT, the latest statements by Republicans indicate that more lawmakers in Congress are already opposing the US administration's policy in Ukraine than before.

"This is an important indicator that American support for the Kyiv regime is clearly losing popularity. And the longer Washington continues to supply weapons to Kyiv, the more all this is perceived with hostility by the population. What Ms. Green and others in the Republican Party said is not just their personal opinion—many Americans think so. Ordinary US citizens are more interested in the problems of their own country than in Ukraine," the expert said.

However, Batiuk stated that there are different positions in the Republican Party on the Ukrainian issue: in addition to Green and 18 other Republicans who are in favor of stopping assistance to Kiev, there are two groups of their party members, one of whom considers it correct to reduce such support, and the other - its prolongation and activation.

As Yuri Rogulev, director of the Franklin D. Roosevelt Foundation for the Study of the United States at Moscow State University, explained in a commentary to RT, many Republicans who are in favor of ending military assistance to Kyiv from Washington are united by the fact that they are supporters of American ex-leader Donald Trump.

"In particular, Green is a well-known Trumpist. Trump is now conducting an election campaign, during which he has already promised to end the conflict in Ukraine, showed himself to be a peacemaker. His supporters are now doing the same, taking a deep peacekeeping position. However, unfortunately, there are not so many such people in Congress, one should not exaggerate their weight, since this is still a minority, "the analyst said.

At the same time, not only among this part of the congressmen, but also in American society, discontent is growing due to the supply of weapons to Kiev, Rogulev believes.

"It is increasing due to the fact that the situation of the American population itself is deteriorating against the backdrop of economic problems in the country, the migration crisis and other difficulties. In this regard, the need to keep the so-called Ukrainian project afloat will raise more and more questions among the population, since it is extremely expensive," the expert said.

According to Batiuk, the results of many polls show the reluctance of ordinary Americans to spend taxes to exacerbate the conflict in Ukraine.

"As arms supplies to Kiev continue, dissatisfaction with this will grow in society. Now the Ukrainian factor is helping the current government gain popularity, however, if Kiev fails to achieve decisive victories by the fall, Washington may direct funds to something more useful than weapons tranches to the Kyiv regime. America loves winners. She doesn't like losers," the analyst stated.

Meanwhile, HSE professor Dmitry Evstafiev, in a conversation with RT, noted that the absence of any criteria for providing assistance to Kiev, as well as the uncontrollability of decision-making on supplies, causes "growing irritation not only in American society, but also in systemic political circles" of the United States.

"In the context of the clan fragmentation of American power and the not very clear decision-making structure in the White House, the slide into an uncontrolled confrontation with Russia, which Republicans warn about, is becoming a reality. And everyone in the United States is beginning to feel it, "the analyst added.

Earlier, the White House said that Washington would have enough funds to support the Kyiv regime until the end of the current fiscal year, which ends in the fall. At the same time, the US administration may request additional funding from Congress, if necessary, Washington said.

Rogulev admits that in the fall the arms tranches to Kiev can be significantly reduced.

"In order to reach a compromise on the new US budget, Democrats and Republicans in Congress will be forced to make mutual concessions, which will require a reduction in some expenses, primarily in the Ukrainian case," the expert concluded.
