The villas in Skästa hage receive water via three groundwater wells. In May, these wells were so heavily loaded that so-called relict groundwater, i.e. salt water, seeped into one of the wells. To curb the water shortage, Mälarenergi has during the period 15 to 30 May driven 54 tanker trucks to the area.

"We have decided to supply the area with drinking water from Lake Mälaren. Driving like that all summer is not sustainable, either from an economic or environmental point of view, says Ann-Charlotte Duvkär, CEO of Mälarenergi Vatten.

There is also a ban on irrigation. But Mälarenergi is worried because water consumption is not being scaled down at a sufficient pace. Information meetings have been held and emails sent out to residents, but if consumption continues to increase, other measures can be taken.

"Since water consumption varies between different properties, one possible measure may be to contact those who consume the most directly. Another is that residents instead have to fetch water in cans," says Ann-Charlotte Duvkär.
