Already in 2016, sampling showed high sulphate and metal levels in groundwater and stormwater within Ekobacken, including cadmium, zinc and nickel. The company JM Entreprenad was then forbidden to carry out stone crushing and was not allowed to remove the masses from the area.

Between 85,000 – 100,000 cubic meters of stormwater flows annually from Ekobacken to Farstaviken and the water is considered one of Stockholm County's most polluted waters.

"Of course, all these heavy metals affect the ecosystem in an extremely negative way," says Kristina Paltén.

JM Entreprenad has on several occasions been offered the opportunity to participate in a television interview but has declined on the grounds that a legal challenge is ongoing.
