Beijing, 6 Jun (Zhongxin Net) -- China's Supreme People's Court held a news conference in Beijing on 5 June. At the meeting, it was reported that in 5, courts across the country accepted a total of 2022 first-instance environmental resource cases and concluded 273177 trials.

On the occasion of World Environment Day, the "China Environmental Resources Trial (2022)" and the "China Environmental Justice Development Report (2022)" were released at the conference. The two reports aim to show the latest achievements in the integration and development of environmental resources trial practice and theoretical research.

Among them, the "China Environmental Resources Trial (2022)" provides a comprehensive summary of last year's environmental resource trial work, and this annual report discloses the aforementioned data. According to Yang Linping, vice president of China's Supreme People's Court, the data reflects that the people's courts continue to faithfully perform their environmental resources trial duties, and the quality, efficiency and effect of law enforcement case handling continue to improve.

She also said that in 2022, the people's courts will continue to further promote the reform and innovation of the environmental justice system and mechanism, and the professional level of environmental resources trials will steadily improve.

The Report on the Development of Environmental Justice in China (2022) is jointly completed by the Research Center for Environmental and Resources Judicial Research of the Supreme People's Court and the research group "Research on the Development of Environmental Justice in China". The report believes that the specialized system of environmental justice is basically mature, and the professional development of environmental justice has formed distinctive Chinese characteristics.

"We have observed that judicial authorities in various places are actively exploring the rules of environmental justice under the concepts of 'green justice' and 'convenient justice', and promoting the formation of participatory litigation mechanisms." Lu Zhongmei, member of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress and vice chairman of the Environment and Resources Protection Committee, said at the meeting.

Focusing on the future development of environmental resources adjudication, Yang Linping said that local courts will strengthen the judicial protection of the ecological environment and resources in an all-round, all-region and whole-process manner, and will effectively punish environmental resource crimes, relieve environmental civil rights and interests, supervise administrative organs to administer according to law, safeguard the national and social public interests, and continuously improve the level of integrated protection and systematic governance of landscapes, forests, fields, lakes, grass and sand, natural relics and cultural relics.
