A medical source told Al Jazeera late Monday that Tunisian Ennahda leader Sahbi Ateeq, who is being arrested by the authorities, has been transferred to intensive care.

The source explained that Ateeq lost consciousness after his health deteriorated on the 25th day of his hunger strike.

For its part, Ennahda expressed grave concern over the deterioration of Atiq's health and called for intervention in order to save his life.

The Tunisian authorities had arrested Sahbi Atiq and imprisoned him by judicial decision since May 6, in a case related to money laundering, according to her description.

But Zainab Al-Maraihi, wife of the leader of the Renaissance Movement Sahbi Ateeq, spoke to Al Jazeera Net a few days ago, stressing that "he was falsely and unjustly crammed into a fraudulent case against the background of his political affiliation."

Al-Maraihi said that her husband went on hunger strike in order to lift the grievance against him, stressing his innocence of the charge against him.
