Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Monday appointed former presidential spokesman Ibrahim Kalin as intelligence chief, replacing Hakan Fidan, who took over as foreign minister.

This was quoted by the Turkish Anadolu Agency as saying a statement issued by the Turkish presidential communication department.

Erdogan announced the composition of his new government on Sunday after taking the oath of office following his victory in the presidential run-off election at the expense of opposition candidate Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu.

The cabinet saw all but two ministers of the previous government be changed, the minister of health and the minister of tourism and culture, and one of the most prominent appointments was the assignment of the foreign ministry to Hakan Fidan, who had been the head of intelligence since 2010.

Mehmet Şimşek was appointed finance minister, Ali Yerlikaya as interior minister, and Yaşar Guler as defense minister, the latter being the chief of staff of the Turkish Armed Forces.

The Communication Department of the Turkish Presidency announced on Monday the appointment of the commander of the ground forces, Musa Oswar, to head the General Staff temporarily until another head is appointed, and the department also announced the appointment of Haluk Gürgon as head of the Defense Industries Authority.
