"Unfortunately our warrior passed away. Thank you for all the support." With this message his family announced last Wednesday the death of Lygia Fazio. The Brazilian model and influencer, who had also worked as a journalist on a TV show, had been admitted to a Sao Paulo hospital for weeks because of a stroke.

According to the Argentine newspaper Clarín, the unfortunate end of Lygia Fazio, 40 years old and mother of two children, began to be written in 2020, when she resorted to implants to enlarge her buttocks. Since then, the material used in that cosmetic surgery operation – industrial silicone mixed with the plastic component PMMA – had not stopped causing health problems because it infiltrated other parts of the body and led to infections. Last year she was admitted for 100 days.

"I am grateful to the Lord for being alive and for helping many people not to go through what I went through," Lygia Fazio wrote on her Instagram account upon receiving medical discharge after one of her admissions to remove the material from those implants.

The journalist Meiri Borges, a friend of Lygia Fazio, defined that cosmetic surgery operation as "the time bomb of her life". According to Clarín, Borges said that "that product began to spread throughout his body, causing bacteria, infections and many problems for his life."

"How long are these killer doctors going to put PPMA on people? That is a crime. It has to be banned. Rest in peace, Lygia," wrote presenter Flávia Noronha. Other friends of Lygia Fazio have spoken of a "clandestine" operation.

Polymethylmethacrylate resin is used for the manufacture of bone and dental prostheses. But PMMA stopped being used years ago in prostheses for buttocks and breasts precisely because of the subsequent complications that had been detected. On the one hand, it could cause inflammation and, on the other, if necessary, it was very difficult to remove. That's why Lygia Fazio's family and friends are using her Instagram account to warn about the risk of the materials that were implanted in her.
