"The average price of cherries in Russia in May 2023 is 450 rubles per kg. The average price increased by 11%, sales increased by 34% compared to the same period in 2022," analysts say.

The average price of strawberries in Russia in May amounted to 475 rubles per kg, and sales increased by 6% compared to the same period last year.

Also, over the year, sales of blueberries and plums increased by 23% (by 9%). But grape sales decreased by 4%.

The analysis is based on a statistical sample of anonymized fiscal data obtained only by the fiscal data operator Taxcom LLC. In total, more than 47 billion cash receipts were analyzed.

Biologist and agronomist Mikhail Vorobyov believes that the growth in sales of strawberries and cherries may be associated with an increase in sown and planting areas.

"If the sown and planting areas were increased, then the harvest also increased, which means that we have more of these products on the shelves. As for the grapes, they are now all imported. Most likely, it is brought from the southern hemisphere, where it is now, in general, autumn. Obviously, if people eat cherries now, they are unlikely to eat grapes. Therefore, it is not in demand and it is imported less, "Vorobyov said.

He also believes that in the near future the demand for berries will not decrease.

"In the summer, we always stock up on vitamins. And we eat them, and freeze them, and cook jam. Therefore, the demand for strawberries, cherries and cherries (in the summer months. - RT) will not decrease. Blueberries are likely to increase demand. Because now it is still more imported, as it bears fruit in the middle of our summer near Moscow, I mean. Therefore, it is still being brought from the southern regions and countries. And as soon as there is a Russian harvest, prices will go down and consumption, respectively, will increase, "he said.

Earlier, nutritionist Mikhail Ginzburg warned that if you are prone to allergies and gastrointestinal diseases, you should not abuse cherries.
