Emmanuel Macron goes this Friday in the Gard to meet the civil security and "prepare the summer" which "promises to be very difficult" on the front of the fires, and launch the "weather of the forests", a new device of prediction of the risk of fire. The Élysée also gives a positive progress report on the decisions taken at the end of last year.

After a devastating summer 2022 on the forest fire front, fires have already begun this year in some regions of France, even before the arrival of the summer season. This Friday, Emmanuel Macron went to Nimes, in the Gard, for the beginning of the campaign against forest fires. The president will assess the reinforcements that will be deployed this summer to fight the fires.

Positive progress report for the Élysée

Emmanuel Macron's plane landed around noon at the air base of the civil security of Nimes-Garons, where the president will "exchange with all the actors mobilized". He comes to "ensure that the decisions he announced" in the autumn to strengthen firefighting means "are well implemented" on the ground.

The Élysée, in any case, draws up a positive progress report, including nine additional aerial aircraft, new columns of firefighters, mobilizable reinforcements and progress towards the creation of a fourth military unit of civil security.

Emmanuel Macron will also launch this Friday the weather of the forests whose first bulletin will be broadcast. Based on the model of vigilance for thunderstorms, this new forecast map will present at the departmental scale the degree of risk by a color code ranging from green to red. The goal is to make it a tool for collective mobilization, while, according to professionals, this summer still promises to be very difficult on the fire front.
