In 2018, a study was conducted to strengthen the quality and equivalence of educational care. The investigators concluded that there are many well-functioning activities, but that in many cases children are less prepared for school than those who have attended preschool.

After the investigation, the politicians decided to tighten the requirements. Among other things, it is about an aptitude test being carried out for those who want to become day mothers.

In the clip, Linda Eskilsson, former special investigator, talks about what they found in the investigation into educational care.

Fewer and fewer mothers

According to statistics from the Swedish National Agency for Education, 91 of the country's 290 municipalities offered educational care under municipal auspices in 2022. In addition, there are a number of private day mothers. If you look back over the past ten years, the number of day mothers has decreased by almost 70 percent.
