The shooter, who was 16 years old at the time of the murder, was sentenced in the district court to inpatient juvenile detention for 2 years and 11 months for murder, aggravated weapons offense and public destruction. Prosecutor Daniel Suneson had asked for eight years in prison. Now the Svea Court of Appeal is changing the verdict and giving the now 17-year-old shooter inpatient juvenile detention for four years. The Court of Appeal agrees with the district court's assessment regarding murder, but also convicts the 17-year-old of attempted murder of another person.

Three co-defendants, aged 19, 31 and 32, were acquitted of aiding and abetting. The prosecutor also wanted them to receive multi-year prison sentences, but they were also acquitted by the Court of Appeal.

Important evidence, including the murder weapon, was found in an apartment in southern Stockholm. There was also another weapon, a bag of clothes and a mask that matched the killer's – all with the boy's DNA on them. On the outside of the mask was the victim's blood.

The judgment was appealed

The district court verdict was appealed by the now 17-year-old boy and two co-defendants who want to be acquitted completely, as well as by the prosecutor who wants all four to be sentenced to several years in prison.

The main accused boy was freed in April by armed people in connection with a dentist visit, and then remained in hiding for just over a week before he was arrested.
