Beijing, 6 Jun (ZXS) -- In view of the trade agreement to be signed between the United States and Taiwan, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning said at a regular news conference on 1 June that the Chinese side has made solemn representations to the US side on many occasions and that the US side must not send any wrong signal to the "Taiwan independence" separatist forces in the name of economy and trade.

A reporter asked, Taiwan's relevant departments said that Taiwan and the United States will sign a trade agreement on Thursday and hope to reach a comprehensive free trade agreement in the future.

Mao Ning said that China has always resolutely opposed any form of official exchanges between countries that have diplomatic relations with the Taiwan region of China, including negotiating and signing any agreements with sovereignty connotations and official nature. The relevant actions of the US side seriously violate the one-China principle and the provisions of the three Sino-US joint communiques, and also violate the US commitment to maintain only unofficial relations with Taiwan.

Mao Ning stressed that the US side should stop any form of official US-Taiwan exchanges, not negotiate and sign agreements with the Taiwan region with sovereignty and official nature, and must not send any wrong signals to the "Taiwan independence" separatist forces in the name of economy and trade. Under the guise of economic and trade cooperation, the DPP authorities are destined to "rely on the United States to seek independence."

Another reporter asked, the US Treasury Department official said that the United States is considering new rules to restrict the flow of US investment and technology to Chinese companies in advanced semiconductors, artificial intelligence and quantum computing. What is the Foreign Ministry's response to this?

Mao Ning said: We have noted relevant reports and are paying close attention to relevant trends. China firmly opposes the politicization and weaponization of economic, trade and scientific and technological issues by the United States, which sets up obstacles to normal technical cooperation and economic and trade exchanges between industry and the private sector, and disrupts the stability of the global production and supply chain. Such acts harm others and are not in the interests of any party.

Asked by another reporter, the U.S. Secretary of Defense said that China's refusal to meet with senior U.S. defense officials was unfortunate, and he also said that the United States and Japan are working to further modernize military relations to prevent China's so-called coercive behavior. What is China's comment on this?

"Regarding the meeting between the defense ministers of the two countries, the Chinese Ministry of Defense has responded, which you can check." Mao Ning said, "Regarding the military relations between the United States and Japan, we have always believed that military cooperation between countries should be conducive to regional peace and stability, and should not target a third party, let alone harm the interests of a third party." When it comes to coercion, it is not China that engages in coercion, but the United States. (End)
