Beijing, 5 May (ZXS) -- The Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council held a regular news conference in Beijing on 31 May, at which spokeswoman Zhu Fenglian answered reporters' questions on hot topics such as US arms sales to Taiwan, political hype by the DPP authorities on the use of the World Health Assembly to deal with Taiwan-related issues, and the investigation and punishment of Taiwan's taekwondo player Li Dongxian by the green camp on the island.

Taiwan's defense department recently confirmed that the $5 million in US arms aid to Taiwan has been implemented, and the first batch of delivered Stinger man-portable air defense missiles has arrived in Taiwan. Zhu Fenglian responded that the United States' attempt to turn Taiwan into a "porcupine" is in essence to "destroy Taiwan" and "harm Taiwan." Regarding the first batch of agreements that the United States and Taiwan will sign on the so-called "21st Century Trade Initiative," she pointed out that the DPP authorities are pushing this so-called "agreement" and letting the United States take what it wants, which is "doing everything in Taiwan to please foreign countries," and is purely a loss of money and money.

On the issue of Taiwan's participation in the activities of the World Health Organization, Zhu Fenglian once again made clear her position. She said that the reason why Taiwan cannot participate in the World Health Assembly as an observer is because the DPP authorities stubbornly adhere to the "Taiwan independence" stance, which undermines the political basis for dealing with this issue. The DPP authorities used the WHA's Taiwan-related issues to make political hype to make the international community more aware of two facts: first, Taiwan is a part of China; Second, what the DPP authorities really care about is not the health of the Taiwan people, but the so-called "international space" by making political noises and rubbing meetings.

Recently, Taiwanese taekwondo player Lee Dong-hyun raised a five-star red flag to celebrate after winning a medal in a South Korean event, and the green camp on the island clamored for investigation and punishment. At the press conference, Zhu Fenglian congratulated Li Dongxian on his achievements, and pointed out that the attacks, accusations and even intimidation of Taiwan's green camp media and the Mainland Affairs Council have exposed the extreme hypocrisy of the so-called "freedom and democracy" they flaunted, and also once again showed that under the "green terror" created by the DPP, there is only freedom to advocate "Taiwan independence" on the island, and there is no freedom to identify with reunification.

Democratic Progressive Party Chairman Lai Qingde recently declared that "the mainland's business conditions have deteriorated greatly and are no longer the largest base for investment by Taiwan enterprises." The mainland was, is, and will continue to be the best choice for Taiwan businessmen and enterprises to invest and develop their businesses.

In response to recent remarks on cross-strait relations by Taiwan leader Tsai Ing-wen and Lai Qingde, Zhu Fenglian recalled the actions of the DPP authorities in the seven years since they came to power, saying that the DPP authorities are the real saboteurs of the status quo in the Taiwan Strait and the biggest source of chaos in peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. This is a fact that no amount of whitewashing can conceal. She stressed: "Taiwan independence" is a dead end that leads nowhere. We adhere to the basic principle of "peaceful reunification and one country, two systems" and are willing to create broad space for peaceful reunification, but we will never leave any space for various forms of "Taiwan independence" separatist activities.

Zhu Fenglian introduced the preparations for the 15th Straits Forum and explained the successive holding of cross-strait exchange activities in Pingtan and Guangzhou. She said that Taiwanese singers and bands are expected to hold nearly 100 large-scale concerts in the mainland this year and participate in dozens of large-scale music festival projects.

The press conference lasted nearly 40 minutes, and Zhu Fenglian also responded to topics such as facilitating Taiwan compatriots to experience mainland mobile payment, You Xikun, head of Taiwan's legislature, visiting the United States, Taiwan's explicit ban on Taiwan people coming to the mainland for group travel, and Taiwan People's Party Chairman Ke Wenzhe's cross-strait proposal.
