The Bureau of the Parliament agreed to withdraw the seat to the suspended president Laura Borràs sentenced to 4.5 years in prison and 13 years of disqualification by the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia for the crimes of prevarication and falsification of documents when she directed the Institution of Catalan Letters (ILC). After this conviction, the Central Electoral Board (JEC) ordered the withdrawal of the seat despite the fact that the sentence is not yet final.

The Parliament filed an appeal with precautionary measures for Borràs to continue as president but the Supreme Court (TS) has rejected them. For this reason, the Bureau definitively withdrew the seat and will elect a new president on Friday, 9 June.

After knowing the decision of the Supreme, the first vice president of the Parliament, Alba Vergès, convened an extraordinary meeting of the Bureau of the Parliament and the Board of Spokesmen to discuss the withdrawal of the act of deputy to the current suspended president, Laura Borràs, as ordered by the JEC after knowing his conviction for two crimes linked to corruption.

In addition to the prison sentence, the TSJC also imposed a penalty of disqualification from holding public office that can be applied before the appeal is resolved when they are crimes against the public administration.
