On Wednesday, the City of Gothenburg presented its first social services report after the reorganization within the city. The purpose of the report is to obtain a knowledge base that can support the city in the work towards a more equal and effective social service, which in turn will lead to a more equal city.

Strong increase in support for young criminals

The report shows that the number of people who have received interventions to leave crime has increased from about 70 people to 220, over the past five years. Most are under the age of 21.

"It's both that we catch more people, but also that those who are involved in crime have greater concerns," says Marie Larsson.

Economic challenges

At the same time, the increased efforts mean increased costs for Social Services.

"People are needed for extensive efforts. In the short term it is expensive, but in the long term it is socio-economic.
