This was stated by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Moscow recalled Germany's decision to reduce its consular presence in Russia.

"It was the German side, under clearly far-fetched pretexts, that recently initiated mass expulsions of our diplomats, introduced quotas for a number of categories of employees of foreign missions, and delayed the issuance of visas. At the same time, forgetting about the twofold disparity in their favor in terms of the number of personnel of foreign missions. Our retaliatory actions were taken solely in response and on the basis of the principle of reciprocity," the Foreign Ministry said.

Ill-conceived provocative actions will not remain without a proper reaction from Russia, the ministry stressed.

Earlier, the German Foreign Ministry said that the German authorities were revoking permission for the activities of four of the five Russian consulates general in Germany.
