A 64-year-old man has been seriously injured after being hit by a chair thrown from a balcony on a street in the Ipurua neighbourhood of Eibar. Apparently, the passer-by was walking calmly down the street while he was going to buy bread, according to the Diario Vasco, when the seat hit him on the head, leaving him unconscious.
The Ertzaintza has arrested a 21-year-old man who is accused of having thrown the chair out of the window from a third floor, according to EFE. It was 9.00 am on Monday when several witnesses alerted the Basque police of what happened and asked that an ambulance approach the scene.
The victim was transferred to the Donostia hospital in serious condition while the agents located in the vicinity of the area the sofa, which had been moved by someone to a nearby garbage point.
The detainee faces a crime of injury by serious negligence and has been transferred to police stations waiting to be brought to justice.
