On Tuesday, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken will visit Sweden together with two other US ministers. They are Trade Minister Katherine Tai and Industry Minister Gina Raimondo.

Trade issues in focus

For two days, they will meet three EU Commissioners and hold talks within the framework of the Trade and Technology Council (TTC).

"This is one of the most important forums we have for discussing trade issues between the EU and the US," says Minister for Foreign Trade Johan Forssell (M).

The discussions will focus on how countries can meet the challenges posed by the implementation of the green and digital transitions. This includes agreeing on a transatlantic vision with common guidelines for artificial intelligence and the new 6G technology.

"Important call for the government"

On Tuesday evening, Antony Blinken will have a private meeting with Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M) and Foreign Minister Tobias Billström (M).

The meeting will be about Sweden's continued process towards Swedish NATO membership. The discussions are based on the Turkish election, where it was clear at the weekend that Erdogan will be given renewed confidence to take on the role of president for another five years.

"The United States is a crucial party in the ratification process. It will be an important conversation for the government, says Johan Forssell (M).
